About Me

Hi!  Welcome to the Integral Self website!

My name is Juli Choden. I am a Self-Development Coach, Personal Retreat Facilitator and the founder of The Integral Self.

The focus of my coaching methodology is to help you to recognize and develop your full, authentic potential. By being present and listening intently, I am able to reflect your positive essential qualities and ask relevant questions that encourage and deepen your self-inquiry. This focused exploration invites more self-awareness, which can ultimately unblock any self-limiting beliefs you may have.  From this new place of understanding, we can begin to explore possibilities that reflect your more integrated self where greater success in achieving your personal goals and meeting life’s challenges become possible.

Are you feeling like you aren’t living the life that you were meant to live?

Are you finding it difficult to express your unique individuality in your life?

Has your basic need for love, security and acceptance been focused outside of yourself to the extent that you have lost connection with your own inner wisdom?

Does your current way of being occlude the expression of your authentic self that resides somewhere buried deep inside?

Fortunately development does not end in childhood and life continues to give us opportunities for growth. These opportunities present as uncomfortable feelings or perhaps as an emotional, psychological, physical, relational, spiritual and/or occupational breakdown. These disturbances may be the fertile ground where new self-awareness is born and behavioral changes become possible.

Through one-on-one coaching and personal retreats, I facilitate your individual development to help you negotiate these changes, so that you may reconnect with your authentic, innate qualities and open to your untapped potential.

My coaching objectives, methods and style are informed by my own life experiences, as well as my formal education.  My formative years were spent, like many others, discovering my talents and strengths, but also encountering and resisting influences that often obstructed my positive sense of self. These challenges ultimately led me on a path towards rediscovering and reclaiming my true self that led to developing new strategies and skills for living life in a more empowered way.

My Personal Journey

I was a precocious child-imaginative, inquisitive, artistic, and energetic. I felt deeply connected to my world and explored freely. I was full of potential and promise.

About the age of entering school, I became aware of my vulnerability. I experienced my family’s pain and suffering and had internalized it as my own. I started to experience feelings I had never felt before – anxiety, abandonment and depression. Instead of focusing on my own needs as a child, I began to place primary importance on the needs of others. This led to a variety of negative consequences. My performance in school fell well below my potential and I lost connection to what brought me joy. In my teen years, I began to use alcohol, drugs and sex as means of numbing and gaining approval. My lack of self-love and self-concern eventually led me to a distorted view of my own body and an eating disorder. This mental and physical self-abuse was both a result of and also exacerbated my ongoing anxiety and feelings of depression and low self worth.

At the age of 16, all my defenses seemed to be failing me and I felt utterly alone and lost. Fortunately, events in my life re-awakened something in me that allowed for a new possibility of living.

Thus began my long journey of self-healing and self-remembering. I sought out inspiring books and teachers and studied different spiritual and esoteric philosophies. I explored various forms of meditation, yoga and somatic work through which I learned to listen to the wisdom of my body. I returned to my childhood passion for being outdoors and spent more time in the natural world. My creativity re-resurfaced but now with a different focus. I began to use my art as a process of exploring myself more deeply through self–portraits, dream images and mandalas. I eventually continued my education with renewed enthusiasm studying the Natural Sciences, Art, and Psychology.

I never felt that deep depression again. I began to acquire the understandings and skills that enabled me to challenge my self-limiting beliefs and re-establish balance that reconnected me to my innate qualities of curiosity, creativity and imagination.

Each step along my path contributed to the rich tapestry of formal education and life experiences that inform my multi-faceted coaching style that I offer to my clients.
